Go out and enjoy the many activities the beautiful Hawke’s Bay has to offer then return to your own private paradise, or retreat from the world for a few days in private luxury accommodation with unrivalled charm and character.

However it is wise not to organise too much to do outside the gates as once you have unpacked it is highly likely you won’t want to leave.
At the end of a sweeping, oak-lined driveway; an easy twenty-five minute drive from Hawkes Bay’s Napier airport, sits one of New Zealand’s most charming luxury accommodation retreats.
Summerlee is a magnificent secluded property set in 10 acres with towering historic trees, significant native renewal planting and a vegetable garden and orchard to make any chef weep with delight. All this plus spectacular coastal views of a sweeping Hawkes Bay coastline with a nearby local coastal village, wineries, restaurants, a renowned surf break, and one of the world’s top golf courses.

Summerlee is a Tourism New Zealand Qualmark 5-Star rated property, with a certified Light Footprint.
The extensive renovation of this original homestead is testament to the care and love the owners have for this special part of the world, and their beliefs about preserving this special environment.
There is an extensive planting program of shrubs, trees and plants on the property together with a wide array of vegetable and herb gardens, which guests are encouraged to enjoy - fully embracing the concept of garden to table dining during their stay.
Recycling is encouraged, cleaning products are environmentally friendly, and energy saving steps are taken where possible. The pool at Summerlee, for example, is heated naturally, with the black concrete and sunshine cleverly doing all the work.
Each year the owners focus on improving sustainability practices on the property - with the elimination of single use plastics being a recent example.
Signature Experience
Seaside golf at its finest
As the original homestead of Cape Kidnappers Station, Summerlee now neighbours the world renowned Cape Kidnappers Golf Course.
Ranked amongst the top courses in the world, course designer Tom Doak describes it as ‘seaside golf at its finest’ and says “it was a great adventure to track up the hill every day and build a golf course in such a remarkable setting.”
The course occupies a breath taking peninsula at the southern end of Hawke's Bay, extending 10 kilometres into the South Pacific. It’s part of a 5,500-acre working sheep and cattle station protected by over 10 kilometres of predator proof fencing. Golfers are treated to unforgettable play surrounded by rare and endangered bird life that call the tree clad ravines home.
You won’t want to leave
While there are wonderful attractions, great restaurants, wineries, and natural experiences to enjoy right on its doorstep, Summerlee is also well regarded as a destination in itself.
With 10-acres of gardens to explore, and lots of different breakout areas it easily caters to various ages and interests.
The expansive landscape encompasses four separate patio areas, an astro-turf tennis court with night lighting; a large petanque court, separate pool and pool house area, spa, croquet and a highly appointed outdoor room with gym equipment.
Guests are encouraged to help themselves to the large gardens and to the produce in the orchard. It’s a wonderful destination to unwind, relax and share a special environment with loved ones.
