Hawks Nest firmly embraces the Tiaki promise, with a strong commitment to caring for this very special place, for now and future generations.

Thousands of native shrubs and trees were planted during the build and landscaping of Hawks Nest, with the aim of enhancing the soil structure and stability, following the removal of introduced pines. These native shrubs and trees add to the the biodiversity and encourage native birds back to the area. A pest and predator eradication program is also run on the entire estate, so the bird and plant species we are nurturing are protected.

As a result of the land conservation, you will delight in watching the birds who make Hawks Nest their regular home, including the beautiful Tui who feast on the native flax nectar, and the magnificent kāhu / hawk (New Zealand’s largest bird of prey). Another reward of this extensive planting is Hawk’s Nest own exclusive honey produced from the beehives on the estate. Honey doesn’t come more local than this.

Our water is clean and pure, naturally sourced from Lake Whakatipu and tripled filtered; absolutely divine straight from the tap.

Eco-friendly practices are woven into all aspects of your stay. We use sustainable, compostable, or re-usable products products wherever possible, and all cleaning products are NZ-made and friendly to the environment.

The Hawks Nest gardens supplement locally sourced produce and guests are encouraged to help themselves to the produce during their stay. We actively compost, putting as much natural goodness back into the land, as possible.
