Welcome to the Foley Villa at Wharekauhau
Fit for royalty, the Foley Villa is a world-class hideaway set on a 3,000-acre working sheep station on the North Island’s south-east coast. It offers guests the best of both worlds - complete privacy and independence, as well as access to all the amenities of the renowned Wharekauhau Country Estate.
Located just a short 10 minute walk (or 2-minute drive) from the main Wharekauhau lodge, its proximity enables guests to easily make use of all the facilities and activities of the estate, including tennis court, swimming pool, restaurant and spa.
Wharekauhau Country Estate is also home to 16 smaller suites dotted around the central lodge, providing scope for others to be hosted on the property, should additional rooms be required.
The Foley Villa is famous for hosting the (now) Prince and Princess of Wales (William and Catherine) and Prince George on their 2014 tour of NZ.
Elegant, yet built to make a statement, the Foley Villa is the jewel in the crown of famous luxury lodge, Wharekauhau Country Estate.
The 4,500 square foot private owner’s cottage is framed by a backdrop of the rugged Remutaka Ranges to the west and enjoys stunning views over the dramatic black sand Palliser Bay to its east.
The 3-bedroom villa has a light and bright Hamptons-style feel and has been designed to incorporate as much natural light as possible. All three guest suites have stunning views across Palliser Bay and the downstairs master guest suite also opens out onto a private paved courtyard.
The sweeping front patio extends out to a heated infinity pool - perfect for summer poolside barbeques. And, there’s an outdoor gas fireplace with seating and exterior music for those still summer nights.

Travel Deeper is a concept that means taking a moment to slow down and understand at a much deeper level how the property fits within its ecosystem and community. Wharekauhau Country Estate is deeply committed to, and invested in, ensuring an experience that is highly memorable, yet low impact on the natural resources.
As a company, Wharekauhau recognises their unique position to be role models, leaders and ambassadors in the community. They feel the privilege of being the current guardians of the remarkable whenua (land) known as ‘Wharekauhau’ and acknowledge and respect those that have come before them, and those that will experience this property in years to come.
Wharekauhau aims to be the absolute best ‘runholders’ of the land, and to ensure all those that visit become engaged in helping continue this legacy.
The property has a detailed, and ever evolving, Conservation Plan that all departments across the property contribute to. This plays a vital role in helping steer decisions and ensures a sustainable business model. It also means the Wharekauhau team can continue to stand proud as guardians of the land. They have one goal - to always be better.
Guests will enjoy:
Some of the world’s purest water, straight from the spring on the property (guests are encouraged to fill their own water bottles)
Foraging with chefs and enjoying produce grown on the land
The opportunity to plant a tree and build your own legacy at the estate, whilst ensuring we meet our planting commitments.
